Beyond Studio, the Research Branch of Roman Road, Launches a Pilot 9-Month Programme for Young Artists
Recent discussions — including the Frieze roundtable “How London Can Champion Its Next Generation of Artists”, published on 24 Sep 2025 — highlight the need for alternative, flexible, and supportive platforms beyond institutional or commercial models. Beyond Studio responds directly to this need in building a space where artists can continue training seriously after formal school and we are very excited to announce our pilot 9-month programme, limited to 10 artists and upon application.
Our expansion into a full-length programme, now offering artists a dedicated room with an art reference library and a fully equipped classroom in Bethnal Green, replacing the use of our original gallery, provides the time, structure, and professional support needed to develop their practice with confidence, depth, and long-term sustainability. This follows the success of our three short courses running since February 2025.
At the heart of Beyond Studio lies the ‘Trilogy of Confidence’, a methodology developed by Marisa Bellani through years of practice supporting artists at the early stages of their careers, helping them transform ideas into tangible projects. Rather than a set of procedural steps, the Trilogy frames the artist’s development in conceptual and professional terms, reflecting the
interplay between practice, presentation, and sustainability in contemporary art.

Lize Bartelli | The Hour of the Star | Visiting Curators Initiative at Pipeline
Roman Road is honoured to be the first to take part in the Visiting Curators Initiative at Pipeline. On this occasion, we present Lize Bartelli. The Hour of the Star, an exhibition opening on 22 January 2026, in which Bartelli continues her exploration of symbol, gesture, and colour following her first London solo show, Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me (June 2025).
For her second London exhibition, Bartelli presents a new series of fourteen paintings in varying formats. Curated by Marisa Bellani, founder of Roman Road, the exhibition revolves around a central question: where does the desire to become end, and the performance of becoming begin?
Pipeline invites curators and galleries, both nationally and internationally, to occupy the second floor of the gallery for a month-long exhibition. Whilst independent from Pipeline’s exhibition program, this opportunity offers visibility in the heart of London, with the support of a local gallery.
